Dental crowns are used to restore the size, shape, appearance, strength and function of a damaged tooth by placing it over a tooth. Perth Milling Centre Dental Lab offers different kinds of Dental Crowns.
All-Ceramic Crowns
For the first kind of Dental crowns, the restoration made for all-ceramic crowns are fabricated using a porcelain. This type of crowns is called “porcelain jacket”. This material used for this type of crowns are popular due to its strengths, and some materials are known for its superior aesthetics. Its translucency which makes it look more natural is one of its advantages. Nevertheless, this crown is not good for the teeth at the back of the mouth wherein there’s a huge force of chewing.
Gold Crowns
The next one is the all- metal, in which the restoration is made using white (silver- coloured) or gold dental alloy. These materials were known for their durability, reliability and strength which makes it last longer. Gold crowns can handle different forces in biting and chewing. Moreover, the neighbouring teeth, which is the teeth that oppose it is safe as the crown won’t create excessive wear on it. With Gold crowns, it also enables the dentist to have an easy job as the alloy is very workable. However, the disadvantage of this kind of crown is that it is not good to place it on the teeth that show when smiling, especially on the front ones.
Porcelain-fused-to-metal or PFM
Then, the Porcelain-fused-to-metal or better known as “PFM”. In this kind of tooth crowning, the porcelain is enclosed with a metal substructure. Compare to the other kinds of crowns, the materials used here offers both strength and good aesthetics. It is made by thinning of metal which fits over the tooth and then the fusing of porcelain over it takes place. The advantage of this crown is that a dark line can usually be seen at the edge of the crown.
Zirconia Crowns
And lastly, the Zirconia crowns, which is made of an unbreakable and long lasting material. Although it is monolithic, it has a high durability compares to other crowns. The improvement of its material to be more translucent is continuous to make it look more natural. The Zirconia crown is best for covering stained teeth.
